With young, unco-operative children and toddlers a short session of sedation is more acceptable. With the help of medication during sedation the child remains conscious and the feeling of fear is strongly prevented.
Under the observation of an experienced anaesthetist a very anxious child can now be treated.
Just as in general anaesthesia, the child has to come to the treatment with an empty stomach.
The child experiences an amnesia, which means he/she will not be able to remember anything about the procedure.
Therefore this method of treatment is selected in an unpleasant operation to spare the child from negative experiences relating to dentistry.
